Maidstone Market reopens 13th June

Maidstone Market is due to reopen ‘its doors’ on Saturday 13th June.

Following the announcement by Boris Johnson, Maidstone Borough Council (MBC), has decided to reopen the market and is encouraging shoppers to support local traders by visiting the site which is offering a variety of new stalls thanks to the offer of free pitches to traders.

The Council initiative is part of the national ‘Love your Local’ campaign.  The offer of free pitches is to provide the perfect platform to re-connect the local community with Maidstone Market and benefit social distancing measures with fresh air and space.

MBC Leisure Property Manager – Alexa Kersting-Wood said: “Lockdown has given us all the chance to create and reignite relationships with our communities including local producers of food and products who delivered when big brands couldn’t.

“This time has also allowed some smaller producers to shine and show off the great quality that buying local can provide, not only in the product itself, but the customer service and care that comes with it.”

The criteria for the free stalls are that you make or produce your goods locally and you are new to Maidstone Market.

Since offering the free market pitches the Council has received 20 applications from new stall holders who will a wide selection of goods for potential shoppers.
