Maidstone Street Fusion Festival

Fusion Street Festival returns with a riot of colour and music

Maidstone town centre will be filled with colour and music once again as the Fusion Street Festival comes to town on Saturday 16 July.

The vibrant colourful pop-up festival will feature a stunning life size roaming snow globe, a brass band performing classic pop and Bollywood tunes, jugglers, acrobats, a Bob Marley Tribute, a lively Chinese Lion, North Indian Dhol Drumming beats plus special free workshops for children both in Fremlin Walk and at The Mall.

Cllr Claudine Russell, Maidstone Borough Council Lead Member for Leisure and Arts said: “This captivating street festival is a real spectacle of colour and music, it really is a must see, the exhilarating music will have you tapping your feet and the beautiful colours and activity of the shows are an amazing sight.

“With many shops in the town also offering discounts as part of ‘Maidfest’ why not make a day of it. You should be able to pick up a bargain or two while you are in the town centre while being entertained, come and see for yourself, you won’t be disappointed.”

Activity will take place around Fremlin Walk, Week Street, Jubilee Square and The Mall between 10am and 2pm.

In addition there will be free pirate workshops for children, as well as juggling, comedy and the Chinese Lion at the Lockmeadow Entertainment Centre between 12.30pm and 3.30pm.

Claudine continues: “The aim of the event is to showcase a range of different arts and cultural activities in and around the town centre underlining the fact that Maidstone is a vibrant place to visit, where you can see and experience wonderful attractions as you go about your daily business.”

The festival has been produced by Cohesion Plus working in partnership with Maidstone Borough Council. Cohesion Plus have a long record of working in the area as producers of the Maidstone Community Mela and their aim is to use the arts to break down barriers and promote greater understanding between communities by showcasing diverse art and celebrating shared values.

Gurvinder Sandher MBE, Artistic Director of Cohesion Plus commented: “I am really pleased to be working on the Maidstone Fusion Street Festival again.  We have a great line up all around the town including the Mall, Fremlin Walk, Jubilee Square and Lockmeadow.  I am really excited about the programme we have produced and look forward to seeing the reactions of shoppers as they see some amazing acts right on their doorstep.  We are very grateful to be working with Maidstone Borough Council again and hope the local community will come out and support us as they have in previous years.”
